The Adventure of Missing Sock

Sister Hale was a normal missionary doing normal laundry… Except for a single sock who decided to not be normal, because who wants to be normal? Sock wanted to get out of the tiny world it knew, the world of Suitcase and Laundry Bag and Washing Machine. So as Sister Hale was moving her laundry, Sock slipped away silently, disappearing onto the world of Floor.

Sock looked around, excited at being able to be on Floor without being squished. Sock jumped for joy and ran around, exploring unknown worlds such as Counter, Chair, Couch, Cupboard, but staying inside was not enough. Sock wanted to explore the Outside. It was a world that did not start with “C” and so it was exciting. Sock wanted to see all that it could in the time that it had. So, despite the difficulties it had doing so, Sock climbed through an open window and slipped into the Outside…

Almost immediately, Sock came face to fabric with Crystal the Dog! Crystal sniffed Sock and bit it, throwing it around with abandon, excited that she had found something new. But she did not realize that Sock had feelings and did not like being thrown around. Eventually Crystal got bored and dropped Sock, who crumpled itself into a sad little ball to protect itself. It did not know what to do or where to go, for despair had overtaken it.

After an unknown amount of time that was probably a long time, Sock felt a presence beside it and was fearful of being tossed around some more and again abandoned in the dirt. After a moment of silence and that not happening, Sock looked up to see Toby the Cat looking at it kindly. Toby nodded a friendly greeting to Sock and lifted it back through the window to safety.

As Sock fell through the window to the safe world of Inside, an overwhelming feeling of gratitude came for Toby the Cat. Sock knew that without his help, Sock would never have been able to return to the now comforting worlds of Suitcase and Laundry Bag and Washing Machine. Sock crept slowly to Laundry Bag and climbed inside, comforted by the familiar world. Sister Hale came to put all the clothes together in Washing Machine and Sock knew everything would be ok.

The End

Moral of the story: (definitely different because we are not socks) leaving our comfort zones is the only way we can learn, grow, and progress. It can be hard and even painful at times, but there are always those who will help us stay safe and all we need to do is accept their help.

I know that God and Jesus Christ are always there for us, even in our hardest times and they will always be close to us through the Spirit whenever we need it. They will never EVER let us go into a dangerous situation without warning us first, whether that be a feeling of dread or worry, or whether that's someone else telling us something isn't safe. They are ALWAYS there for us. And even when we get into those situations, when we don't listen to God, I know that He will always forgive us if we truly repent. I know They love me and I know They love each of you with all Their hearts. You just need to open yours to feel it :)
