Week 4: Packing Up
HAIL THE CONQUERING HERO (BADA BADADA NANANA NANANA NANANA NANANAAANAAAAAA)
Lol jk but this week was the last week of online MTC!! It's super exciting :))) I think I'm most nervous for the airport cuz I won't have my fantastic companion(s) (shoutout to Sister Eves and also my sisters and mom XD) and I'm probably gonna get lost, let's be honest. Or maybe I'll somehow go through security twice, who knows. ๐ I'm planning on finding some other missionary friends so we can help each other out, so we'll see how that goes...
Friday was the very last day of MTC classes and Brother Astle acted as our "final boss" and pretended to be an atheist named Michael (based on someone he knew from his mission) who grew up with his super Jewish step-granddad and worked as a pizza delivery man and we had to teach him a lesson as a district. We talked about the Plan of Salvation and the Atonement and Sister Eves has literally the BEST ANALOGY for the laws of justice/mercy:
basically it goes that you are in a plane and you're really wanting to skydive. So what do you do? You jump out of the plane. And you're falling and falling and you realize you didn't put on a parachute. But your friend knew you were going to jump, so they put a parachute onto you for you to use, you just have to pull the cord. So the law of justice in this analogy is gravity, it's gonna keep pulling you down. But the law of mercy is that parachute that Christ offered you. It doesn't keep you from falling, but it does protect you from the consequences of jumping out of the airplane. You just have to choose to use it.
Also this week Elder Hansen played Silent Night on the harmonica and it was pretty fantastic.
And I also learned Elder Hanks can juggle, which is also pretty cool.
Scripture of the week: D&C 88:14-20
Go look it up, it is REALLY good, it's about the Plan of Salvation and it defines the souls of men and why they need to be sanctified in Christ to receive glory :)
Quotes of the Week:
- "Even if it isn't the best 2 years of your life, it's the best 2 years for your life" -Elder Turner
- *talking about miracles* "Just the fact that your body.... like WHAT" (and also a little later) "You don't always know in the moment that a miracle is happening, but you don't always need to know for a miracle to happen" -Brother Astle
- *Ellie after I told her about Tom Cruise's "need for speed" quote* "I feel the need... the need to pee" ๐
- *in companion study talking about old/new testament* "Jessica chapter one: look for the smiley faces" -Sister Eves ๐
Fun Fact: "Superstition during the Middle Ages cited that Cumin kept chickens and lovers from wandering. It was also believed that a happy life awaited the bride and groom who carried cumin seed throughout the wedding" -one of my cookbooks
(idk if anyone wants to experiment with that or not *cough* Rachel *cough* but I mean it's interesting. I have a few more herb fun facts from the same book so that's gonna be in the upcoming weeks)
P.S. The next time you'll get an email will be the Monday after I enter the field!
